Thematic trail

It’s pleasantly cool on this hiking trail. It leads for the most part along the water and through a light-flooded forest.

The around 300-year-old Kommabrücke, the oldest covered wooden bridge in Vorarlberg, is one of the special sights to see along the way. Hikers walk along the Bolgenach river and reach the Engenlochschlucht gorge with its overhanging rock formations. The trail crosses the Ließenbach bridge to the water-powered Bartenstein sawmill. Panels provide insights into the various aspects and uses of water – from Grander revitalised water in the swimming pool to spring water along the path to small puddles with amphibians and the remains of a huge ice-age lake.

Directions

This path takes you to the Kommabrücke which, at about 300 years old, is the oldest covered wooden bridge in the state. You hike along the Bolgenach as far as the Engenlochschlucht with its overhanging cliff formations. Via the Ließenbachbrücke, you reach the water-operated sawmill Bartenstein in Reute.

Suggestions

Tip: The hike is particularly charming in the rain but may then be slippery in places.
